David Marr to help ALHR to Mark World End the Death Penalty in Brisbane in October

From newsletter: Date Claimer for 8 October
Published: 01/07/2010

Although I am due to send a full newsletter, that may have to wait for another day. This one is devoted to sending a date claimer for an important event in October. The Queensland Committee of ALHR has combined with Aussies Against Capital Punishment to bring David Marr to Brisbaneto mark World Day Against the Death Penalty. David will be speaking at a dinner to be held at the Rydges South Bank Hotel, 9 Glenelg Street, Brisbane on the evening of 8 October 2010.

Aussies Against Capital Punishment is an organisation set up by the Lee and Chris Rush, the parents of Scott Rush, one of the Australians on death row in Indonesia for drug offences. I am patron of AACP, a role I had before I became President of ALHR and so have a double interest in the function being a success.

I know that it will be difficult for people outside Queensland to make the function. However, I am sending this newsletter to all ALHR members just in case some of you in other States are interested in coming up to Brissie for what promises to be an important and very interesting night. World Day Against the Death Penalty is actually on 10 October. However, we decided to put the dinner on the Friday night, inter alia, so that our interstate visitors can have the rest of the weekend to enjoy being in Queensland.

So, if you are at all interested, please put the date in your diary. You can record your interest in attending by sending an email to ALHR members at [email protected] or [email protected] or AACP at [email protected].
